Backround:
Kato Zakros, tucked away on Crete’s eastern coast, remains a tranquil village, largely untouched by tourism. With its charming appeal, stunning scenery, and rich history, it is a perfect peaceful escape for travelers. Drive through the winding countryside roads to reach this secluded gem, where time seems to dwindle by its natural breathtaking beauty.

History:
In the heart of Kato Zakros lies “The Palace of Zakros”, this archeological gem dates back to the Minoan times. Because this small town remains somewhat unknown this ruin is in great shape. No more than a few other people are wondering about this ruin at once. Towns and villages within driving distance offer other historical experiences such as historical waterways, chapels, monasteries (Toplou Monastery), and other ruins.
Secluded Beaches:
Kato Zakros is not only a town of historical importance but is also home to some of the most amazing beaches. The crystal clear water speaks for itself along with the perfect water temperatures and safety of the protected coves. Xerokampos is a small town about 15 minutes south of Kato Zakros on a dirt road. Xerokampos is home to some of my favorite beaches I have ever seen.

Hikes:
For those of you who enjoy a bit more of an adventure or activity, Kato Zakros is for you. There is a network of trails that lead through mountainsides, gorges, and cliffsides. These hikes bring you right into moving and breathing nature as you see wild frogs, goats, lizards, and more.
Hospitality and Eats:
Located on the beach of Kato Zakros lies a small strip of restaurants. This makes up the entire “downtown” of this village. Any restaurant you choose you won’t be let down by the fresh, homemade food. Each meal is made with love. These are family-owned restaurants. truly make your experience the best they can.
